3 Simple Steps to Make a Room Come Alive
You’ve agonized over the perfect paint color, and carefully selected your rugs and window treatments. The furniture has been arranged (then re-arranged), the sofa has finally been delivered and your room should finally be complete.
But something’s missing.
Don’t worry—I’ve got 3 simple steps to help.
It’s the little details that make a room come alive. If you’ve taken care of all the big elements, but something’s still not right, don’t fret. It doesn’t mean you need to throw everything out and start over. No, you just need to focus on the details.
Here are 3 simple ways to make a room come alive.
- Books: Books aren’t just for bookshelves! Even if your room already boasts shelves full of books, look around for spots where you can add a small stack (three is usually the perfect number). Is there a coffee table or a side table that you can add a few gorgeous books to (for some of my favorite coffee table options click here). Adding small stacks of books adds visual interest to surfaces, plus they can be a great conversation starter!
- Flowers & Plants: Adding a vase of fresh flowers or a little greenery in the way of a plant will instantly help brighten up your room. Look for surfaces that seem empty or dull, and as long as adding some flowers or foliage won’t interfere with function, go for it. Whether you choose something seasonal from your yard, a grocery-store bouquet, or a potted plant, it’s an instant face-lift for your room.
- Ambiance: Blankets, candles, music, and lighting can all make your room seem cozier and more friendly. Try throwing a pretty blanket over the arm of the couch or the back of a chair, finding a spot for a candle or two (but don’t forget to blow them out when you leave the room), and using lamps or sconces instead of the overhead light. Finally, turn on a playlist to really set the mood. (Don’t have a playlist ready? Click here for one of my favorites). Voila—creating ambiance will transform your space.
That’s it—three simple steps to give your room some personality and make it come alive!
