StoryDollars: Keep Your Kids Creating This Summer
I’m always trying to think of new ways to keep my kids using their brains during the summer (while keeping it fun—it is summer after all!). I’ve been thinking about story a lot lately, and it’s inspired our summer creative challenge: Storydollars. I thought some of you might enjoy doing it too, so we put together a printable kit you can purchase in our shop.
Here are the details:
Every day, the kids are responsible for writing a story. That’s the only instruction: write a story. They’ll turn in their story to me each day, and I’ll pick a winner. That day’s winner earns a Storydollar. They can save up their Storydollars and turn them in for prizes or privileges—things like extra screen time, an ice cream outing, something out of a prize box.
My kids are pretty close in age, so it seems fair for them to compete against each other. But if you only have one kid, or you have a bigger age gap, they could earn a Storydollar for simply writing their story. Or, if they have big plans to be the next great American novelist and want to write an epic throughout the summer, they could earn a Storydollar for each day they work on their story, or for each page completed. The possibilities are endless!
What’s included?
Our printable kit includes Storydollars you can print out, plus four different pages of designs for your kids to create their stories on (something for every age group!), and a cover page for their book! Grab it in our shop and keep those creative wheels turning this summer.
