Welcome to the Whitney English blog!
Hello! I’m not new around here, but maybe you are.
This is the internet, after all. And five thousand people read this blog every month, by golly, which is something that sort of floors me.
Every now and then, I think it’s nice to start fresh. I love cleaning off the countertop and table in the kitchen every night. The fresh start the next day is a favorite. So, I thought I’d take a minute to re-introduce myself here, and fresh-start this blog a bit.
Additionally, I’m in the process of writing my first book, a book about goal setting with the heart of helping women lead beautiful lives. Writers have to write, so this blog might as well enjoy some of the cast-aside ramblings.
I’m Whitney English. Born in Texas, married a Tennessean/Texan, and raised in Oklahoma, we wholeheartedly believe that you can take the girl out of Texas, but not the Texas outta the girl. People tell me I have an accent, which I attempt to deny, but after a day in Dallas or Atlanta really can’t continue to do.
We currently live in Oklahoma, and have spent the better part of our marriage juggling our time between two homes, which sounds weird to most people, but we didn’t exactly sign up for ordinary when we married each other. We have three kids, whose faces don’t appear around here too often, and a ridiculously fuzzy dog named Hazel, who I will parade around in front of anyone who lets me. That fuzzy thing is my fourth kid. (I know, I annoy myself, too!)
So anyway, hi, I’m Whitney. I’m an entrepreneur. (Everyone in the room in unison, now: “Hi, Whitney!”) Seriously, though, it’s an addiction of a different kind. If you ask me what I’m passionate about, I’ll say it’s my family, my home, and entrepreneurship, in that order.
I haven’t always talked about those things on this blog.
Life got in the way—but that’s an excuse. I let life get in the way. It’s a regret I refuse to let perpetuate. And I’m here to tell you that I’m tired of hiding behind fear and I want to share my story, and I want this blog to be a chronicle of that journey.
A little bit more about me…
- My favorite color used to be pink, any shade. But in the past several years, that just hasn’t been working for me. I’ve been experimenting with a more muted palette, and I’m delighting my mother when I announce that my favorite color is now blue. It’s always been her favorite, as evidenced by her collection of blue and white transfer ware, and I’m with her 100%. It’s just dreamy.
- When I first meet people, I’m often quiet and can unintentionally come across as stand-offish. I’m a total homebody, and have been known to not leave the house for days at a time.
- I love a good chat with a girlfriend/fellow creative entrepreneur, and a glass of wine, and the laughter that always ensues.
- Recently, I lost 22 pounds that I didn’t really know I had to lose. I’m on a mission to lose a few more, and that’s part of what I’d love to share with you.
- My degree is in interior design, and I didn’t really use it until recently, as we’ve just finished building a home and I’m FINALLY getting to decorate!!! I grew up learning from a wide variety of decorators, and I can hardly believe I’m doing what I watched them do for so long!
- Over-usage of exclamation points is one of my hallmarks.
- One time I was vegan for six months, and I still can’t believe I lasted that long, but it was really awesome and I’d do it again.
- My big dream is to start a line of high-end home textiles. I’ve actually been working on this behind the scenes for several years and am just not ready to launch it all just yet. Stay tuned, though. If you look closely at my instagram, you’ll see a few hints!
- My “why” is to help women craft beautiful lives, homes, and businesses. I believe home matters, entrepreneurship matters, that if I can do it, anyone can, and that real beauty is never surface.
- As a Myers-Briggs INTP, I often tell people I think in circles instead of straight lines. My “J” friends often wonder how I’ve gotten anything done in life. Also, Enneagram 7, representing. I argue with my friends that I’m actually a 3, but they consistently call a no-way on that.
Hey Whitney! I’m a long time follower and lover of the Day Designer. Just wanted to say thanks for sharing some of your personal life too! I’m going to grab my 2020 planner and I’m super torn between the DD and the new Week On A Page. Thank you for making a planner that really works for us mama business owners. xo
