Good Recipe: Homemade Popsicles

June 26, 2019 Whitney English Leave a Comment

It’s summer and that means my family (and I!) want all the sweet, cold treats we can get our hands on! The cure for a hot summer day is an easy homemade popsicle. So let me show you how my kids and I made them a few weeks back!

My kids loved this fun kitchen activity. You can easily make a batch of homemade popsicles, then store them in the freezer for a quick treat throughout the week. And because we used pretty good ingredients, I don’t feel guilty about giving them to the kids or indulging myself!

I’ll share the fruity concoctions we made below but don’t hesitate to try out flavors you love, use leftover juices or fruit you have in the fridge and experiment with combinations. You really can’t go wrong with a homemade popsicle, can you?

Start by grabbing your ingredients — some of my family’s favorite flavor combos are included at the end of the post. You’ll also need the following kitchen tools to get started:

  • Blender
  • Measuring cups (although to be honest, we often wing it when measuring for popsicles!)
  • Popsicle Molds (these are the ones we used)

This is a great recipe to get the kids involved with. We pulled all our favorite flavor combos together and I let each kid pour and blend as we went!

Then I divided up the flavor combos in individual glasses so the kids could easily pour them into the popsicle molds!

Homemade popsicles are fun. Pretty homemade popsicles are really fun! Now, it’s time to pour them into the molds. Naturally, we took turns so each kid got a chance to pour in their favorite color!

Now, you can pop them into the freezer!

Wait a few (painstaking!) hours for them to freeze up, and you have easy homemade popsicles for all!

Now I’m sharing our family’s favorite flavor combos! Each of these recipes makes approximately 2-3 popsicles, depending on the size of your popsicle mold.

Strawberry Cream

  • 4 ounces apple juice
  • 5-10 fresh strawberries, depending on size
  • 1 T cream

Orange You Glad You Made Popsicles

  • 1 orange peeled
  • 2 strawberries
  • 4 ounces orange juice

Pineapple Paradise

  • 1 orange peeled
  • 4 ounces pineapple juice

Green Goddess

  • 3 Kiwi peeled + cut
  • 4 Grapes
  • 4 ounces clear juice

Blue Hawaiian

  • 1/2 banana
  • 4 ounces of Blue Hawaiian

Purple Popsicle Eater

  • 1/2 cup frozen blueberries
  • 4 ounces clear juice

I’d love to know, what’s YOUR favorite popsicle flavor?
