Good Recipe: Easy S’mores in a Skillet

June 6, 2019 whitneyenglish Leave a Comment

When I was younger, I went on a canoe trip with our youth group to Boundary Waters, Minnesota. We had a food pack full of enough food for five days, and for five days, we cooked every single meal over an open flame. Thankfully, temperatures that far north are pretty cool, and despite my dislike of camping, it was a wonderful trip each time I went.

Despite these happy memories, I mentioned in my last post, I’m not big on camping. Or glamping. Or anything that involves stepping outside an air-conditioned space and into 100-degree heat. I promise I’m not high-maintenance! I just really don’t like camping.

That does not, however, mean that I do not like s’mores. Or hot dogs for that matter. There is nothing quite like roasting all that goodness over an open flame (despite the fact that it takes the temperature another 80 degrees higher).

So, I’ve concocted this way to enjoy s’mores in the middle of the summer without having to build a fire. It does require you to turn on the oven, and I’m sorry about that. It’s always a goal in our house to see if we can prepare meals without turning on the oven. But wait until it’s dark, and enjoy these s’mores!

Here is our recipe for S’mores in a Skillet:

Ingredients:
  • 2 c. marshmallows
  • 6 (1.5-oz.) chocolate bars, broken into squares
  • 1 sleeve graham crackers, broken into rectangles
  • Cast iron skillet
Directions:
  1. Preheat oven to 400°
  2. Add half of the marshmallows to the bottom of the cast iron skillet.
  3. Top the marshmallows with chocolate squares
  4. Then add graham crackers to the top of the chocolate squares.
  5. Add the remainder of the marshmallows.
  6. Bake until marshmallows are golden and chocolate squares have melted about 10 minutes.
  7. Serve in bowls with spoons (and a napkin because it’s messy) and enjoy!
