The Next Big Thing: 2023 Trends

I always have an ear to the ground for the latest trends, and the beginning of the year is a perfect time to do a round-up of my predictions for the next big thing. In 2023 these are the things I think we’ll be seeing a lot of:

1. Printed lampshades
2. Fancy marble counters
3. Stained wood cabinets with white and color accents
4. Repurposed chic – they don’t make it like they used to
5. A movement from gray to warm taupe
6. Jewel box spaces – closets, pantries, odd spaces
7. Wallpaper
8. Color color everywhere
9. Personality and pushing the limits: no more of everything looking the same
10. A focus on architectural details and woodwork
11. Pops of yellow, especially paired with blues to warm up a space and add energy and delight
12. Toile
13. Iterative design – wait until you find the right piece
14. Chintz – the hallmark of the grandmillenial
15. Faux paint techniques

Of course, there are some things here to stay:

1. Subway tile
2. Brass
3. Quality – craftsmanship, workmanship, a job well done

And some things to avoid like the plague:

1. Accent walls
2. Cheap modern, fast furniture

And be careful with these trends—they may still have some popularity, but I think they are on their way out:
