Step Seven: Choose To Say No
From the time most of us are very young, we are taught told that we are to be selfless. “Put other people first.” Be polite. Don’t offend. “Don’t be selfish.” Share your toys. Play well with others. Give. All good things–in moderation. Sometimes, along the way, some people take all this a step further–they start…
Step Nine: Renew, or How To Find Your Fire When You Feel Lost
The introduction to Step 9 needs to start with a story from my life, but it is a story that is hard to talk about, so I’ll spare you the details. A year ago, I was caffeine-addicted, not exercising, and frankly, probably not spending enough time with my kids. Life was a whirlwind. To be…
Announcing the Day Designer!
On a Saturday morning in November of 2010, I faced of an overflowing email inbox, a hand-scribbled to-do list, a pile of meeting notes, and a daunting holiday rush season in full swing. Overwhelmed and feeling disastrously disorganized, I needed a solution, and quickly. Without any idea of what I was about to produce, I…
REAL.
“Real isn’t how you are made,” said the Skin Horse. “It’s a thing that happens to you. When a child loves you for a long, long time, not just to play with, but REALLY loves you, then you become Real.” “Does it hurt?” asked the Rabbit. “Sometimes,” said the Skin Horse, for he was always…
“I don’t know how you do it all…”
Every now and then, some sweet, precious colleague will say to me, “I don’t know how you do it all,” and for a flash of a second, I’ll feel like I’m accomplishing something extraordinary. Reality is a swift kick in the pants, however, and the statement quickly just becomes a reminder of two things: 1)…
Perspective
This morning, I called my sister. “I need to preface this conversation,” I warned her. “I have the gimmes and I want to wallow for just a minute.” She replied with “What?” “The gimme-gimmes,” I said. “You know, where are you comparing yourself to others and it makes you want stuff you can’t have that’s…

I really love “what you’re best at + helping others = purpose”. That’s great stuff. Keep the vlogs coming! They are candid and transparent, which is most appreciated. You are such an inspiration to so many of us.
Can’t wait to see you again at Authenticate,
Jennifer
Hi Whitney! I’m really enjoying your video blogs! I’m working on finding my “why” and narrowing down what my purpose is. I could really relate to what you said to creative sometimes being all over the place. I find I like so many things that it can be difficult for me to focus on just one thing! Thanks for sharing the resources – I’m going to begin with “Start with Why”!
I finally got around to watching your vlogs and LOVE them! Thank you for being so open and honest! I am totally one of those creatives that loves everything. So narrowing down my purpose has been a constant struggle for me, but “finding what you are best at” really hit home for me. See you at Authenticate!
Thanks Whitney! You responded so quickly. I’m totally impressed. I’ll be heading out soon to scour those resources you referenced…and thinking about asking Corrie (the friend I was telling you about) to read one of the books with me. As a painter I feel so isolated most of the time and the thought of having someone else to talk to about this really excites me! Also, we filled out the Day Designer worksheets together a few months ago…I’m thinking I’ll probably revisit my “why” page in the morning during devo/coffee time. 🙂 Thank you thank you for all your help!
Thank you so much for these videos. So much resonates with me!
Hello there Whitney!
I just got a chance to watch all of your video blogs and am loving them! Thanks for being so open! As a reader and now Authenticate student, I feel even more connected and inspired by your words of encouragement! As you know, I am all over the place too! I love SO many things! I am struggling with this very thing…narrowing down my true purpose! Thanks for the helpful advice!
I’ve been thinking about my purpose and wondering how designing cookies helps people. All of a sudden it hit me that by starting this business and being home has allowed me to serve my family more. I think your purpose tends to change from time to time depending upon where God has placed you. Thank you SO much for making us dig deeper to better ourselves!
Your on fire! This video gives me goosebumps 🙂 I love how much energy I have after watching this 🙂
