My Absolute Favorite Rug Pads
We went with wood floors in the new house. At our old house, and all homes previously, we had carpet in the bedrooms, which worked fine, until, for some reason, at our last house. Craft projects, the dog, and foot traffic (kids = mud), and our wall to wall carpeting was taking a hit.
When we started remodeling our forever home, the clear choice for the kids’ rooms was hardwood floors. We pulled up the 1970’s carpet and put down hardwoods almost immediately. But I still wanted the kids’ floors to be comfy, so this meant rug pads.
I’ve ordered rug pads of all kinds before. We have several that came Restoration Hardware, with rugs, but those aren’t the softest. And I’ve ordered some runner rug pads from Wayfair, but they slid all over the place and drove me nuts. Nothing seemed to really satisfy my desire for the PERFECT rug pad. Every time I tried a different rug pad, it would move around or hang out over the edge.
Enter google.
I ended up on rugpadusa.com! They have a simple questionnaire, asking you about your floors, type of grip needed and type of cushion preferred. The site was easy to navigate, and I quickly landed on two rug pads I wanted to try.
The Cloud Comfort looked promising on the angle of comfort. It boasts the same memory comfort found in foam mattresses. The 100% visco-elastic memory foam is engineered to provide a supportive layer of protection for larger area rugs that do not require non-slip attributes. It is made with natural minerals and soybean oils vs. petro oils, resulting in very low VOC content. Its proprietary moisture barrier protects floors by blocking spills while at the same time allowing vapor to escape. It offers the highest levels of sound absorption, comfort, and insulation available in a rug pad and pairs well with larger rugs that lie flat on their own.
We ordered the Cloud Comfort rug pad for our daughter’s room, and it did not disappoint. It is incredibly soft. The sound absorption is amazingly fantastic—a feature I wasn’t looking for but am delighted to have. The moisture barrier has already been fabulous for a water glass spill. And despite the fact that it says it’s better for rugs that do not require non-slip rug pads, it’s been great about not slipping. We do have heavy furniture sitting on top of it, so that helps.
The next rug pad we ordered was the Superior Lock. This rug pad offers the combination of plush cushioning with high-performing checkered natural rubber backing. It anchors your rug firmly to the floor while providing a thick layer of cushioned support to preserve your rug’s beauty and extends its life. Punched felt surface grabs and holds your area rug, promoting rug evenness while preventing bunching, creeping, and curling at corners. A rich, dense felt core helps soften the rug feel while preventing floor damage and rug movement.
Ordering was a breeze. I entered the rug size, and the pads come trimmed a little bit shorter all the way around so you don’t end up with anything hanging off underneath your rug. They took about a week to get here, but shipping was free. We will definitely order again, for both new rugs and replacement rug pads!
I highly recommend signing up for the RugPadUSA.com emails, as they have frequent sales! We have a special coupon code for you. The code WHITNEYLOVES will give you an additional 5% off and is good through Oct 31, 2020!
Now, here are a few tips for ordering. Tip number one: Before ordering your rug pad, carefully double-check your rug size. I ordered an 8×10 rug for my daughter’s room and the rug pad came trimmed slightly shorter. When we started installing it, I realized the rug was slightly smaller than 8×10. I would recommend ordering your rug first, getting the EXACT measurements, and THEN order your rug pad.
Tip number two: Felt rug pads stretch over time. Every few years, it can help to flip the edge of your rug up, mark a line with a straight edge, and use some big, sharp scissors to trim along the line.
I’m using our Home Design Handbook to track my design decisions and measurements. It’s so nice to have all the information in a central place when you’re research shopping or making decisions.
